Kelvin Smith has a professional publishing background in the UK, USA and Ireland, where he has worked with a wide variety of internationally oriented specialist publishers and international organisations on sales, marketing and product development. From 1989 to 2007 he worked in publishing education at the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies, developing a significant European network of publishing education institutions. For over 20 years he has also worked with a variety of British and International NGOs in the field of publishing and information provision in Africa.


This long-term interest in book chain issues at an international level has focused on
developing, implementing and fundraising for complex international programmes, building sustainable information dissemination networks, and establishing joint educational and training programmes in Europe and Africa. He undertakes research, and writes on cultural policy and publishing development in Europe and Africa.


He has degrees in European Studies from the University of East Anglia and Oxford Brookes University, and can work in French and German.
